Who qualifies?

You are part of the Settlement Class if all of the following are true:

  • Charged a late fee by USAA General Indemnity Co., Garrison Property & Casualty, United Services Automobile Association, or USAA Casualty on a Maryland insurance policy before 2020.
  • Received a refund of that late fee under Maryland Consent Order MIA-2020-08-002.
  • Did not receive accrued interest and/or gains on the refunded amount.

Settlement benefits at a glance

  • Fund size: $5,000,000.
  • Payment method: Statement credit (current policyholders) or mailed check (former policyholders).
  • No claim form needed: Eligible members are paid automatically if the Court approves the deal.

Your legal options & deadlines

  • Do nothing: Receive automatic payment and give up the right to sue separately.
  • Opt out: Deadline – March 30, 2026. Get no money but keep the right to sue USAA about these late fees.
  • Object: Deadline – March 30, 2026. Tell the Court why you oppose the settlement yet still receive payment.
  • Final approval hearing: April 28, 2026, 10 a.m. ET, U.S. District Court, Greenbelt, MD.

Estimated payment size

Your share depends on:

  • The number and age of your late-fee charges.
  • The total number of class members who remain in the case.
  • Court-approved deductions for attorneys’ fees (up to $2 million), expenses, and service awards.

Any leftover funds will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project and Face the Fight.
