If you worked for Homeboy Industries in California as an hourly, non-exempt employee between June 6 2019 and March 17 2025, you may automatically receive money from a $694,965 wage-and-hour settlement. Your Options

  • Do nothing: Stay in the class, receive your payment, and release the covered wage claims.
  • Opt out: Exclude yourself from the class payments by 12/30/2025 (you still receive any PAGA payment).
  • Object: If you remain in the class, you may object to the terms or requested attorney fees by 12/30/2025.
  • Attend the hearing: Speak to the judge on 1/30/2026 in person, by phone, or virtually.

Alleged Violations

The lawsuit, filed by former employee Andrea Almanza Alfaro, claimed Homeboy Industries:

  • Failed to pay minimum and overtime wages
  • Did not provide compliant meal and rest breaks
  • Failed to reimburse business expenses
  • Issued inaccurate wage statements and untimely final pay
  • Violated California’s Unfair Competition Law (Bus. Prof. Code §17200)

Homeboy Industries denies all wrongdoing and liability. The settlement is a compromise reached after mediation.

How much will I receive from the Alfaro v. Homeboy Industries settlement?

Your payment equals your workweeks divided by the total class workweeks, multiplied by the net settlement fund. PAGA shares are calculated separately by pay periods.

Do I need to submit a claim form?

No. Payments are automatic. Submit a claim form only if instructed by the administrator to correct workweek information.

Can I exclude myself from the PAGA portion?

No. California law does not allow opting out of PAGA penalties. Even if you opt out of the class, you will receive any PAGA payment and release PAGA claims.

What happens if I miss the opt-out deadline?
