FDA Recall: Brad’s Crunchy Kale & Veggie Chips Over Elevated Thallium
Immediate action: If you have any Brad’s Plant Based Crunchy Kale or Brad’s Veggie Chips at home, stop eating them right now. Specific lots may contain unsafe amounts of thallium, a toxic heavy metal known to damage the nervous system and gastrointestinal tract and to cause hair loss. Discard the chips; do not return them to the store.
Why Brad’s Crunchy Kale & Veggie Chips Are Recalled
Snack Right Super Foods, Inc. (doing business as Brad’s Raw Chips) announced a nationwide voluntary recall after the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) found elevated thallium in multiple varieties of its dehydrated kale snacks.
Thallium: The Health Risk Explained
Thallium is a naturally occurring element that leafy greens such as kale can absorb from soil. Because Brad’s snacks are dehydrated, the metal becomes more concentrated. Short- or long-term exposure can lead to:
- Severe stomach upset (gastroenteritis)
- Peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage)
- Alopecia (hair loss)
Anyone who experiences these symptoms after eating the recalled snacks should seek medical care promptly.

All 2 oz Brad’s Crunchy Kale flavors—Original, Cheeze It Up, and Radical Ranch—plus the 3 oz Brad’s Veggie Chips Kale listed above are included.
How do I locate the lot number on my Brad’s Veggie Chips?
The lot number appears on the back of each bag near the bottom seal, directly before the Best By date.
Why is thallium in Brad’s Crunchy Kale snacks dangerous?

I already ate the recalled Brad’s Crunchy Kale—what now?
Watch for symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, numbness, or unexpected hair loss. If they occur, contact your healthcare provider and mention potential thallium exposure.
