2026 FDA Salmonella Recall: Kroger, Brookshire’s & Simple Truth Shell Eggs
Alert — July 22 2026: Midwest Poultry Services has voluntarily recalled more than 1.5 million dozen eggs distributed in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana under the Kroger, Brookshire’s, Simple Truth and other labels. Routine testing detected Salmonella Enteritidis. If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Use the identification guide below and return affected cartons for a full refund.
Why were Kroger, Brookshire’s & Simple Truth eggs recalled?
During routine environmental monitoring at two Midwest Poultry Services farms, inspectors found Salmonella Enteritidis in the production environment. Although no illnesses had been linked to the eggs as of the recall date, the company and FDA issued the recall out of an abundance of caution.
How to identify the recalled egg cartons
Check the plant code and Julian date printed in ink on the side of each carton. Only eggs with both of the following criteria are impacted:
- Plant code P-1950 or 0840962
- Julian dates between 157 – 184 (production dates June 6 – July 3 2026)
The best-by or sell-by date will fall between July 20 – August 17 2026.

Where were the recalled eggs sold?
- States: Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana (retail & food-service). Brookshire Grocery additionally supplied a limited quantity to Arkansas, New Mexico and Mississippi.
- Retailers: Kroger, Brookshire Grocery, and select independent supermarkets in the affected states.
Health risks of Salmonella Enteritidis
Symptoms usually appear 6 – 72 hours after eating contaminated food and can last four to seven days. Watch for:
- Fever and chills
- Diarrhea (occasionally bloody)
- Nausea and vomiting
- Abdominal cramps
Young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop severe or prolonged illness that may require medical treatment.
What to do if you purchased the recalled eggs
- Locate the plant code and Julian date on the side of the carton.
- If they match the recall criteria, do not consume the eggs.
- Return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
